The importance of fundraising for any club at any level cannot be underestimated. It is important to appoint a Fundraising coordinator to organise and coordinate your clubs fundraising activities. The major resource that you need is as usual time.
It is essential that whoever is appointed as the Fundraising Coordinator at your club, has adequate support from your committee and the club at large. In many cases your Fundraising Coordinator will require assistance as the scope and range of fundraising opportunities can be very daunting. I would suggest that a Fundraising Sub-Committee is set up and that this consists of the Fundraising Coordinator and two or three other members. As we have mentioned in previous articles there are loads of Funding Opportunities out there. In terms of External Funding it takes some time to figure out what types of funding your club will be eligible for. It really pays off though to get stuck in and find as many opportunities as possible for your team to look into. You will be amazed at the amount of money that is available for Grass Roots Sport from all sorts of sources, from the various “National Lottery” awards schemes to local grant bodies. Awards can range from hundreds of pounds to millions depending on your clubs circumstances and the quality of the bids that you submit. There are also a many ways of fundraising within your club and in later articles I will go into some of the methods which we have used in more detail. There are also various sponsorship opportunities which depending on the level your club is at and how high a profile you have in the local community can be a major source of funding for your club. Not every fundraising method is suited to every club and some of you may have ideas which have not been covered here. If you would like to share your experiences then please email
